Welcome to Great Wishford C.E. (V.A.) Primary School. Situated in the delightful village of Great Wishford, we are one of the oldest working schools in Wiltshire.

As a Church School with a distinctive Christian foundation we aim to create a vibrant and exciting learning environment where children can develop a thirst for learning, be aspirational in the goals they set for themselves and feel safe to challenge themselves.  We coach resilience and perseverance in our pupils to overcome difficulties or new challenges so they are well-prepared for the next stage of their life and able to move into the secondary system.

We strive to instil respect and tolerance with our children to appreciate one another's individual special needs or disabilities.  The school is a calm place which allows pupils to reflect on their daily actions and to feel part of a community built on the core British Values.

Governors gathered on a sunny July evening to wish Ali Jenkins all the best for the future as she prepared to move on after 20 years at Great Wishford CofE VA Primary school, 17 of them as Head Teacher.  She was presented with a watercolour of the village, painted by Jane Rowe, and a framed photo of the school, taken by Chris Lock.  She was also given a card and bouquet of flowers from the Oak Apple Club in recognition of and thanks for the contribution that she and the school has made to Oak Apple Day over the years.  She will be much missed by the Governors and school and we wish her every happiness and fulfilment as she embarks on the next stage of her life.

On 19 July, years 5 and 6 gathered in the hall at Wishford Primary School, together with parents and staff, to celebrate the achievements of the year 6 leavers and to give them a memorable send-off as they prepared to go to their new schools.  And memorable it certainly was, with the year 5s describing what they liked best about their year 6 buddies, and the year 6 leavers themselves telling us about their

achievements, their funniest moments and what the school motto meant to them.  It was very moving to hear of difficulties overcome and of the high regard in which they are held by their friends.  They had painted tiles depicting the animal they considered best represented them, their attributes and personality, giving the reasons for their choices, some of which were very amusing.  They were presented with coloured sashes and a Bible each, and we all partook of bread and grapes, remembering Christ's Last Supper with his friends, before they, too, were sent out into the world.  The children behaved with dignity throughout and delivered their reflections beautifully - they are a credit to the school and the teachers.

The Open the Book team has continued to bring characters from both the Old and New Testaments alive by reading and acting out the stories as told in the Lion Storyteller Bible.  The pupils love to participate and we are never short of willing volunteers.  Read more here .....
